Canada is home to one fifth of the planet's freshwater supply. And yet, many First Nations do not have access to clean drinking water. This is a national disgrace and we believe that all Canadians have a responsibility to take action. Canoe for Clean Water is our way of doing something.
WHAT WE'RE DOING ABOUT IT
We are canoeing across Canada in the spring and summer of 2020 to increase awareness about access to clean water in Indigenous communities and to raise $50 000 for Water First, the most effective charity tackling these issues. Our journey is focused on connections: our connection to the water around us and our connections to each other.
We hope you'll join this journey with us.
WHAT IS WATER FIRST?
Water First is a Canadian charity that works alongside Indigenous communities to address clean water challenges through education, training, and collaboration. Their approach is rooted in meaningful relationships with communities, hiring and training Indigenous youth, and blending western science with traditional knowledge. One of their key projects is an award-winning internship program, which has solved key water science training gaps in 7 First Nations communities on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. They need donations to expand these and other critical water projects to more communities.
